Four young adults selected through the Student Hub social programme in Brazil have been awarded a 2-week full-inclusive programme with the UCT English Language Centre in Cape Town, sponsored by IE Intercâmbio.

Johannes Kraus, Business Development Consultant at the UCT English Language Centre received the group in Cape Town, saying: “We are delighted to welcome the IE Intercâmbio students through such a rewarding programme and we look forward to giving the students an unforgettable experience in Cape Town.”

The Student Hub program was initiated by IE Intercâmbio and developed in partnership with Gerando Falcões, a non-profit entity focusing on education for underprivileged communities and with offices in over 3.000 favelas in Brazil. Gerando Falcões selects the best and most committed students for the opportunity to study abroad.

Rayza, Rilarem, Gustavo and Felipe participated in ELC’s “General English and Language Excursion programme” immersing them into the diverse cultures of Cape Town while practicing the English language in authentic environments. Besides the General English course in the morning, the Language Excursions included: a historical city walk, Cape Malay food, an African music workshop, the Nelson Mandela Exhibition, a street art exhibition, and a visit to Langa township. The students also participated in activities in and around Cape Town, including a University of Cape Town Campus Tour.

Gustavo said: “It was a fantastic experience that included much more than only learning English.” Rayza adds, “It was amazing to get to know the South African culture and study with different people. That was my first time on a plane. Everything was wonderful.”

“This is a unique opportunity for students and a chance for us to contribute to form future leaders capable of changing the reality of the community where they live. This is the first of many groups we are planning to sponsor through the donations of our clients, partners, family, and friends.” said César Sá, business partner at IE Intercâmbio and one of the founders of Student Hub.

César adds, "Cape Town was chosen as the first destination as Brazilians don’t need to apply for visas.  The university’s environment offered by ELC English Language Centre besides the language plus program offering full day activity made this an unforgettable experience.”

The Student Hub project is receiving donations through the web page www.studenthub.com.br. Donations starts from USD30.
